With the 32nd pick in yesterday’s MLS SuperDraft, the brad-stuverMontreal Impact selected Brad Stuver from Cleveland State University, thereby growing our fraternity by one.  The Twinsburg native and first goalkeeper taken in the SuperDraft will join Evan Bush in Quebec as backups to Troy Perkins, another goalie who grew up in Ohio (he’s from Springfield). Click this link to view the interview he did after being drafted.

* Here’s a link from Soccer America about this year’s draftees, including a few comments from Stuver about halfway down the page.

2012 Week 5 Review

For the third week in a row, one of our fellas scored a goal!  However, only four out of ten guys got time this week.  You’ll notice that I removed Michael Green from our roll.  He’s now in the USL-Pro Division, plying his trade with the Pittsburgh Riverhounds and fellow Clevelanders Jeremy Deighton and Louie Rolko.  I’ll report on them sometime this summer.  So let’s get to the report…

Evan Bush [Concord Township/Lake Catholic] & Sinisa Ubiparipovic [Mentor/Mentor] Montreal Impact •  Ubiparipovic was an unused sub last Wednesday in a 1-0 loss at Real Salt Lake, but… he scored the Impact’s opener in its first MLS victory ever, 2-1 over visiting Toronto FC.  It was his third MLS goal ever, and it also game in his first appearance of the season – a 73-minute stint at center mid.  It was his first MLS goal since 6 June 2010, when he scored for New York in a 2-1 win over Houston.  Bush was not in the team for the win over TFC, but he played the entirety of a mid-week 1-1 draw for the Impact’s U-21 team against the Rochester Rhinos.  This week: @ FC Dallas, Saturday, 14 April, 830pm

Chris Korb [Gates Mills/University School] – DC United •  Subbed in for the final 16 minutes at right back for Robbie Russell in DC’s 0-0 draw with Seattle.  This week: @ New England Revolution, Saturday, 14 April, 730pm

Justin Morrow [Cleveland/St. Ignatius] – San Jose Earthquakes •  Started at center back and played the entirety of the ‘Quakes’ 3-1 victory over Vancouver.  This week: @ New York Red Bulls, Saturday, 14 April, 730pm

Darlington Nagbe [Lakewood/St. Edward] – Portland Timbers •  Played the entire game at center mid as the Timbers blew an early lead and lost 2-1 to Chivas USA.  This week: @ Los Angeles Galaxy, Saturday, 14 April, 1030pm

Michael Nanchoff [North Royalton/Walsh Jesuit] – Vancouver Whitecaps •  An injured heel has kept him out of action this season, including the loss to San Jose on Saturday.  This week: no games

Ben Speas [Stow/Cuyahoga Valley Christian Academy] & Josh Williams [Copley/Copley] – Columbus Crew •  Speas remains on the shelf while he recovers from sports hernia surgery.  Williams was an unused sub in the Crew’s 4-1 home beating by the New York Red Bulls, and then he played the full 90 at center back in the Crew reserves’ 2-1 win over the Baby Bulls.  This week: @ Philadelphia Union, Saturday, 14 April, 430pm – match to be broadcast live on NBC Sports Network

Kenney Walker [Wickliffe/Wickliffe] – Los Angeles Galaxy •  Was not in the gameday 18 for a 1-0 loss at Sporting Kansas City on Saturday.  This week: v Portland Timbers, Saturday, 14 April, 1030pm

Ben Zemanski [Akron/Cuyahoga Valley Christian Academy] – Chivas USA •  Started at right mid and went the distance as Chivas won 2-1 at Portland on Saturday.  This week: @ Toronto FC, Saturday, 14 April, 430pm
