2014 Week Ten Report
Three games involving our guys this weekend, each one a different result. Just four guys got gametime, which isn’t much of a change from previous weeks. Here’s how it all went down this past weekend:
DC UNITED W 1-0 @ Philadelphia Union • Chris Korb [Gates Mills/University School] started at right back and played all of this win, which gives DC its first away win of the season – something that it did not pick up in 2013 until… well, never. DC, now 4-3-2 on the 2014 season, went 0-3-12 away from RFK Stadium last year, so this is progress. Korb also picked up a yellow card in the 67th minute for this foul. Next up: v Montreal Impact, Saturday, 17 May, 7pm
COLUMBUS CREW L 0-1 v Vancouver Whitecaps • Josh Williams [Copley/Copley] started at right back and subbed out in the 77th minute, much like he did mid-week in Houston, as the Crew looked for a tying goal, much like it did mid-week in Houston. Ugh. If you’re counting at home, it’s 321 minutes and counting between goals for the Crew. Ben Speas [Stow/Cuyahoga Valley Christian Academy] was not among the gameday 18. Next up: @ Portland Timbers, Saturday, 17 May, 1030pm
PORTLAND TIMBERS D 1-1 v LOS ANGELES GALAXY • If you didn’t watch this one live on NBC Sports Network, have a look at the highlights, especially the second-half extra time. That’s when the goals were scored, and there was also a bit of controversy involving Darlington Nagbe [Lakewood/St. Edward]. Foul? Not a foul? Hmmm… I thought it was a good no-call. (Skip ahead in this week’s mlssoccer.com Instant Replay to the 5:45 mark. Even Simon Borg agrees with me!) Nagbe started up top and played all of it. Ben Zemanski [Akron/Cuyahoga Valley Christian Academy] subbed in with 22 minutes left and Michael Nanchoff [North Royalton/Walsh Jesuit] was an unused substitute. For L.A., Kenney Walker [Wickliffe/Wickliffe] was an unused sub. Next up for PDX: v Columbus Crew, Saturday, 17 May, 1030pm Next up for LA: @ Houston Dynamo, Saturday, 17 May, 830pm
TORONTO FC • No games this weekend for Justin Morrow [Cleveland/St. Ignatius] and company. Next up: Amway Canadian Championship Semifinal leg two, @ Vancouver, Wednesday, 14 May, 1030pm
